{"id":54288,"date":"2022-06-20T04:00:21","date_gmt":"2022-06-19T18:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=54288"},"modified":"2022-06-15T12:49:47","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T02:49:47","slug":"cogg-community-grants-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/cogg-community-grants-open\/","title":{"rendered":"COGG community grants open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong (COGG) has opened applications for its 2022-23 community grants round, with a funding pool of $4.5 million available for 13 separate grant schemes.<\/p>\n<p>COGG is urging residents, community groups, organisations and businesses to assess their eligibility for the various streams that start with up to $500 for grassroots activities through to $350,000 for community infrastructure projects that are ready to go.<\/p>\n<p>The recent Journey on Wadawurrung Country exhibition at Drysdale\u2019s Potato Shed is an example of projects that can be assisted by the grants scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Timed to coincide with Reconciliation Week, the Bellarine Landcare Group secured $10,000 from last year\u2019s Healthy Connected Communities Grant to assist with the show that incorporated photographic prints, sound recordings and interviews of Wadawurrung Elders and their country.<\/p>\n<p>A 22kW solar system to power the Hamlyn Heights Hall was similarly made possible through a $10,000 grant awarded to the Geelong Ballroom Dance Club and the Batesford, Stonehaven, Fyansford Landcare Group weed control and revegetation of the Moorabool River Reserve has been assisted by $8,580 from the Environmental Sustainability Grants stream.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_54309\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54309\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-54309\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/Pool-in-article-2022-06-15T124212.553.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/Pool-in-article-2022-06-15T124212.553.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/06\/Pool-in-article-2022-06-15T124212.553-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-54309\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cr Jim Mason (from left), Batesford, Stonehaven, Fyansford Landcare Group members Felicity and Peter Spear and Helen Percy, and Cr Anthony Aitken. Pahoto: COGG<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cCommunity groups are volunteer-run on a shoestring budget, which is why we hope these grants will relieve some financial pressure to deliver some very important projects,\u201d councillor Anthony Aitken said.<\/p>\n<p>The Bellarine\u2019s Shedding the Blues group that seeks to improve mental health through music was assisted in its work via a community events grant of $4,000 to stage its Tune Up event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticularly during COVID time, it allowed us to cheer people up by bringing music into their lives,\u201d the group\u2019s Des Gorman said.<\/p>\n<p>A new addition to this year\u2019s round is the Climate Change Partnership fund, with $100,000 available for projects that complement council\u2019s aim to become a zero emission, climate-ready region.<\/p>\n<p>With the grants regularly oversubscribed and application periods varying for each funding stream, council is urging people to register their interest early by visiting geelongaustralia.com.au\/grants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong (COGG) has opened applications for its 2022-23 community grants round, with a funding pool of $4.5 million available for 13 separate grant schemes.
