{"id":55058,"date":"2022-07-09T04:15:17","date_gmt":"2022-07-08T18:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=55058"},"modified":"2022-07-05T15:08:32","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T05:08:32","slug":"geelong-gets-a-taste-of-the-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/geelong-gets-a-taste-of-the-best\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong gets a taste of the best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOOD lovers had the special opportunity to bask in a Geelong food and wine wonderland at the Tastes of Central Geelong festival.<\/p>\n<p>Closing last week, the 20-day event gave foodies in the region the chance to learn the tricks of the trade from local chefs as well as participate in wine and diner events as well as food-themed events.<\/p>\n<p>The Tastes of Central Geelong festival involved 106 businesses and 611 events across nearly three weeks helping to promote and offer unique food and wine offerings to the people of the region, while encouraging people to get out and enjoy the colder winter months.<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Geelong mayor Peter Murrihy was rapt with event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat began as a modest festival is growing each year and helping to cement Geelong\u2019s reputation as a destination for food, wine and culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeelong was turned into a thriving culinary destination over the 20-day festival, with events taking place across Little Malop Street, yoga studios, cultural institutions and Geelong Waterfront.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the festival included 2017 Chef of the Year Anna Polyviou\u2019s sweet treat demonstration and DJ set at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre; and cook, author, and television presenter Adam Liaw\u2019s afternoon tea at The Pier.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_55059\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55059\" style=\"width: 836px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-55059\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/220618_AL94_78787.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"836\" height=\"556\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-55059\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adam Liaw cooked at a packed afternoon tea event at The Pier during the Tastes of Central Geelong festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Both were extremely popular, with Liaw and Polyviou hosting sell-out events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlanning and curating the festival takes a lot of hard work, and we\u2019re grateful to all the city staff and local businesses that supported this year\u2019s festival and helped make it such a success,\u201d Cr Murrihy said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOOD lovers had the special opportunity to bask in a Geelong food and wine wonderland at the Tastes of Central Geelong festival.
