{"id":55150,"date":"2022-07-08T04:30:46","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T18:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=55150"},"modified":"2022-07-06T11:09:49","modified_gmt":"2022-07-06T01:09:49","slug":"lady-dragons-ready-to-breathe-fire-in-2022-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/lady-dragons-ready-to-breathe-fire-in-2022-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Dragons ready to breathe fire in 2022\/23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT MAY have taken 50 years to get there but Bell Park will finally field its first women\u2019s cricket side.<\/p>\n<p>Bell Park Dragons Cricket Club is celebrating the confirmation of its inaugural female First XI for season 2022\/23 after the idea was first floated around the club a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Team manager of the \u201cLady Dragons\u201d Carol Lymer is thrilled to see the club take the next steps towards a complete and more inclusive one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have 12-14 women interested and ready to play already, so interest has been really good in recent months particularly,\u201d Lymer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are also a few other ladies who are Bell Park through and through playing A Grade cricket at other clubs, but since finding out we\u2019ve started up a ladies\u2019 team, they\u2019ve jumped ship and are coming back over to their home club, which is terrific for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually thought it was going to provide a lot of headaches getting the team up and going, but it\u2019s been pretty straight-forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lymer said inclusivity was the main theme in getting the female program up and running, as the possibility of second side in future years became more realistic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe world we live in, it\u2019s about time everyone is accepted equally, and by providing a women\u2019s team you\u2019re bringing in the whole community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt creates a family atmosphere at the club and that\u2019s sort of the aim, just to make the whole weekend for the family cricket-related, whether that be for mums, dads, husbands, wife, sisters or brothers, it makes them all part of the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_55194\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55194\" style=\"width: 291px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-55194\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-04-at-4.49.03-pm-221x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"291\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-04-at-4.49.03-pm-221x300.png 221w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-04-at-4.49.03-pm-755x1024.png 755w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-04-at-4.49.03-pm-768x1041.png 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-04-at-4.49.03-pm.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-55194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bell Park Lady Dragons inaugural captain Mollie Robbins.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Men\u2019s First XI player Kell Craven will coach the women\u2019s side during their inaugural campaign, but Lymer said the next step is acquiring a female head coach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a couple of the men\u2019s First XI player helping out with some of the coaching roles for year one, but ideally we want to try to hand that over to a female,\u201d Lymer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s only a handful of clubs in the Barwon Women\u2019s Cricket Competition (BWCC) that are coached by a female, but it\u2019s important we have our side ran by a female as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 498px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/IMG_3550_37844.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"332\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Head coach Kell Craven and team manager Carol Lymer at Hamlyn Park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are presently only three female coaches across the entire BWCC.<\/p>\n<p>Bell Park Cricket Club\u2019s official 50-year celebration is scheduled to take place on November 26.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IT MAY have taken 50 years to get there but Bell Park will finally field its first women\u2019s cricket side.
