LOCAL children\u2019s charity Cottage by the Sea reached new heights at the weekend, raising an impressive $70,000 at its 2018 Annual Fair.<\/p>\n
The event, which is the organisation\u2019s largest public fundraiser each year, topped its total from last year\u2019s fair.<\/p>\n
The event is largely organised and run by volunteers and 100 per cent of takings from the stalls goes to Cottage by the Sea.<\/p>\n
Organisers could not have asked for better weather in the morning, with blue skies and a spectacular view was on offer for those who participated in the always popular Devonshire tea.<\/p>\n
A steady stream of people visited throughout the day, which ensured all food stalls were kept busy and the coffee machine did not get a break.<\/p>\n
Other popular stalls, such as the white elephant, collectibles and books gave fair-goers a chance to snap up a bargain.<\/p>\n
The fruit and veg, provided by Cottage by the Sea Ambassador and owner of Harvey\u2019s of Highton fruit store, Glynn Harvey, sold out in record time as did the plants, which were kindly donated by Wombat Gully Plant Farm.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, there was rain in the afternoon. Despite this, the day was a big success and enjoyed by all who attended and volunteered.<\/p>\n
The money raised this year will go towards making the cottage, a building that is more than 80 years old, accessible for all and allowing more children to benefit from the work that Cottage by the Sea provides in the community.<\/p>\n
The event makes up part of the charity\u2019s 2018 Community Appeal, which is targeted at improving the facilities and creating a better Cottage by the Sea for the children of the future.<\/p>\n
