Externally it remains very sympathetic to the period in terms of the balcony, the cement render, and the colours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen internally, you have a beautiful, warm, hotel feeling, and the new rooms upstairs are quite cutting edge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a real game-changer for the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The multi-million-dollar renovation included the refurbishment of 18 heritage inspired rooms across two levels, with some being able to access the balcony and bay views.<\/p>\n<p>New areas such as the Atrium, which reopened in December, the lawn, the bistro and front bar featuring 18-foot high ceilings, which re-opened six weeks ago, were also part of the litany of upgrades over the past year and a half.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 582px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/IMG_2411_71585.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"582\" height=\"388\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of 18 heritage-inspired rooms with access to the hotel&#8217;s balcony.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Henderson, who has managed the venue for three years alongside co-manager Franco Biasuzzo, said accommodation opens to the public on August 1, but there was already a tremendous amount of interest.<\/p>\n<p>The next challenge for the hotel is staffing to cope with the expected summer surge set to present itself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s business as usual, but it\u2019s a different usual,\u201d Mr Henderson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe currently operate at five days a week and we are thinking of going to seven, but we\u2019re in need of about 30 new staff members to cope with demand, so we\u2019re hoping that when the hotel becomes unveiled, more people will jump at the chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hotel has a fantastic bunch of staff, and it has a great range of ages from 16 through to 68, I believe; they\u2019re all focused on looking after the customer and they love the environment they are working in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 579px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/IMG_2399_93575.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"579\" height=\"386\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The hotel&#8217;s new front bar is already in action.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hotel, commonly referred to as \u201cThe Grand Lady\u201d, will also lend itself to popular Portarlington-based events moving forward now that its renovation is complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got to experience our first Celtic Festival in three years a few weeks ago, which was absolutely exciting as we got to work very closely with the festival director Una McAlinden, and we\u2019re in discussions for next year\u2019s Mussel Festival,\u201d Mr Henderson added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also just come out of a meeting regarding the Melbourne Cup visiting Portarlington and we\u2019ll be a feature venue for the presentation, so there is plenty to look forward to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 575px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/IMG_2390_73878.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"383\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The hotel&#8217;s newly refurbished bistro.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To enquire about potential work at the Portarlington Grand Hotel heading into summer, email enquiries@pghotel.com.au.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Portarlington Grand Hotel is officially back in business with its major renovation now complete.
