{"id":55963,"date":"2022-07-26T04:15:54","date_gmt":"2022-07-25T18:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=55963"},"modified":"2022-07-26T08:56:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T22:56:13","slug":"groups-hail-golf-clubs-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/groups-hail-golf-clubs-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Groups hail golf club&#8217;s grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A QUARTET of clubs on the Bellarine Peninsula are celebrating after their applications to the Clifton Springs Golf Club\u2019s Community Contribution Fund (CCF).<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the club invites local community groups and sporting clubs to apply for a share in $10,000 to put towards existing programs or to fast-track facility improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Clifton Springs Golf Club hosted a morning tea on Friday last week to announce this year\u2019s CCF recipients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clifton Springs Tennis Club \u2013 $6,000<\/li>\n<li>Drysdale Soccer Club \u2013 $2,900<\/li>\n<li>Clifton Springs Bowls Club \u2013 $1,100<\/li>\n<li>St Leonards Bowls Club \u2013 $500<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Representatives of all four groups thanked the golf club for their financial assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Barry Oswald from the Clifton Springs Bowls Club said the CCF grant was the latest example of the great relationship between his club and the golf club in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate what they do, these donations have really helped our sort of club to do the things we want to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout their support, we would really struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peter Garlick from the St Leonards Bowls Club said the CCF money would be of great help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve already got something earmarked for this which will hopefully help us keep some of our longer-serving members in the game a bit longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Louise Hardy from the Drysdale Soccer Club said her club was putting a lot of time into its junior members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be able to invest in the little ones \u2013 this is where there are future sports players in every area \u2013 so what this brings to us to be able to invest in them and provide them with the right equipment and facilities makes a huge difference for growth and retention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clifton Springs Golf Club president Phil Smith congratulated this year\u2019s successful recipients, and encouraged the other applicants to try again in 2023.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 675px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/07\/IMG_6524_02452.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clifton Springs GC president Phil Smith (right) presents Peter Garlick with a grant for the St Leonards Bowls Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very privileged to and proud to give away this amount of money every year, we try to concentrate on local groups, local non-profit sporting organisations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s a part of what we\u2019re about here. We\u2019re a community group and we try to encourage the community down here; we\u2019re hard at work expanding the facilities at the moment to try to give you even more scope to come down for a meal or entertainment or what have you.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re striving to become a community centre again and we\u2019re working very hard at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, the CCF provided support to the Clifton Springs Community Men\u2019s Shed to assist in the construction of the Men\u2019s Shed, and also supported the Wallington Cricket Club with the purchase of uniforms for their new women\u2019s cricket team.
