<\/p>\nFOREST Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) is running a recruitment drive for 21 project firefighters to work in the Barwon South West region ahead of the upcoming season.<\/p>\n
FFMVic\u2019s Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Maria Lambrinos said applications are now open for the roles that include general firefighters and fire support officers as well as some specialist roles in some locations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese fixed term positions are a fantastic opportunity for people from all walks of life who are physically fit to get out in the bush, protect Victoria from bushfires and help to maintain public land right across the state,\u201d she said.
\n<\/p>\n
\u201cThe roles involve being on the frontline fighting bushfires, conducting planned burns, managing roadside vegetation, pest and weed control, maintaining access to fire trails and roads, and supporting other emergency work to help protect the community and environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eighteen roles across the state have also been solely dedicated for Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, both a reflection of the government\u2019s commitment to a diverse workforce and its support for Traditional Owners to care for Country and lead cultural burning across the landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuccessful recruits will be fully trained and get the opportunity to work with experienced staff from a range of fire management agencies right across the state, and potentially nationally and internationally if required,\u201d Ms Lambrinos said.<\/p>\n
