THE Borough of Queenscliffe Council has confirmed Australia Day celebrations will go ahead despite an increased pressure to change the date.<\/p>\n

Borough of Queenscliffe mayor Susan Salter confirmed there was no date consideration before the council, and events would take place in accordance with existing Australia Day policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustralia Day is arguably one of the most popular civic events held annually, which respects and includes all sectors of the community,\u201d Cr Salter said.<\/p>\n

The Borough of Queenscliffe celebrations will include a welcome to country ceremony and Australian citizenship ceremony, an official flag raising ceremony with address from the mayor in conjunction with Australia Day Award presentations and a presentation by an Australia Day ambassador.<\/p>\n

The Queenscliffe Community Nursery gives away a free native tree to each family at the celebration and a sausage sizzle is provided by the local Lions Club.<\/p>\n

Cr Slater said Australia Day celebrations are a local community event where everyone is welcome and participation is encouraged.<\/p>\n

MEANWHILE in Ocean Grove, the local Lions Club will be hosting their annual Australia Day Kite Construction and Flying Day on Ocean Grove beach from 9am.<\/p>\n

The activity is free, with all materials supplied by the Lions Club.<\/p>\n
