{"id":57350,"date":"2022-08-24T04:00:34","date_gmt":"2022-08-23T18:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=57350"},"modified":"2022-08-17T17:24:00","modified_gmt":"2022-08-17T07:24:00","slug":"drysdale-seniors-happy-with-hub-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/drysdale-seniors-happy-with-hub-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Drysdale seniors happy with Hub move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEMBERS of the Drysdale and District Senior Citizens Club have moved into their new venue on Eversley Street after a long-awaited relocation.<\/p>\n<p>Club president Di McKenzie said the club&#8217;s move to the new Drysdale Community Hub provided club members with a &#8220;more inviting and more comfortable&#8221; location.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The old building we were in previously on Wyndham Street was way past its use-by date, so when council asked us if we would be open to moving it was a pretty short discussion, we were out of there,&#8221; Ms McKenzie said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The backyard is lovely when it&#8217;s maintained, everyone who comes through the doors says it&#8217;s a lovely new building, there&#8217;s more natural lighting and amenities like the kitchen are a lot better in general.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57353\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57353\" style=\"width: 231px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57353\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/IMG_5255_80241-e1660720900617.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/IMG_5255_80241-e1660720900617.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/IMG_5255_80241-e1660720900617-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-57353\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drysdale &amp; District Senior Citizens Club president Di McKenzie.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The club now offers a range of activities for current and new members to take part in, including wine and cheese groups, quilting, bingo, and carpet bowls, as well as weight watchers and exercise groups to focus on the physical health.<\/p>\n<p>The club has observed its membership numbers increase three-fold in the past couple of months to 200 members and more than 2,000 new users entering its doors since the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Long-time member and treasurer Jan Taylor said the club aims to be an inclusive place for all seniors in town, whether they are members or not.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anyone who comes by and sees that we are open is more than welcome to come in, say hi and have a cup of coffee,&#8221; Ms Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But the biggest challenge for us is drawing people in and access, we don&#8217;t have a sign out the front of the Hub because we are not allowed, it&#8217;s a council building.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 539px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/IMG_5260_57438.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"359\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drysdale &amp;
