{"id":59936,"date":"2022-10-02T04:00:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-01T17:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=59936"},"modified":"2022-09-28T09:21:52","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T23:21:52","slug":"victorian-teachers-games-a-success-in-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/victorian-teachers-games-a-success-in-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Victorian Teachers Games a success in Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 1800 state educators have participated in the 25th annual Victorian Teachers Games in Geelong, with teachers connecting and competing in close to 50 different sports during the four-day competition.<\/p>\n<p>After a two year layoff due to the pandemic, the Games provided an opportunity for Victorian education staff to relax, take part in a variety of competitive and social sporting activities, connect with peers and be inspired to make physical activity a part of their lives.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80574\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-80574 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/306544957_4162428072_15989-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1664248523\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-80574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">VTG also held an Amazing Race\/Colour Run as part of the sporting extravaganza.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sports spectacular began in Geelong in 1996-97 by local teacher Peter Currie and state educators were thrilled to have the festival return to to its birthplace in it&#8217;s celebratory 25th year.<\/p>\n<p>The 2022 event schedule included a wide range of sporting events including netball, lawn bowls, laser skirmish, dodgeball, archery, an Amazing Race and more.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80575\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80575\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-80575 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/306863888_7545743156_15994-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1664248528\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-80575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Teachers took part in close to 50 sports, including archery.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CEO of event organiser School Sport Victoria, Rayoni Nelson said the event was fantastic to put back on the calendar after pandemic interruptions and thanked all educators for being apart of the special 25th anniversary edition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are delighted that over 1,800 teachers and educators across Victoria participated in VTG this year,&#8221; Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was wonderful to see the value this event provided in bringing the community of educators together for four days of sporting competition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_80576\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80576\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-80576 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/307414550_6559167923_15957-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1664248531\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-80576\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 1,800 educators took part in the 25th Victorian Teachers&#8217; Games.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, almost three out of four participants travelled from outside Geelong to be apart of the event and stayed at least one night in local Geelong accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>The Games was said to bring many economical benefits for local Geelong businesses.<\/p>\n<p>VTG participants happily sported their medals and wooden spoons around Geelong post-event and all look forward to the 2023 Games in Latrobe City from September 17 to 20.<\/p>\n<p>For event highlights, go to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.victeachersgames.com.au\/\"> www.victeachersgames.com.au\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 1800 state educators have participated in the 25th annual Victorian Teachers Games in Geelong, with teachers connecting and competing in close to 50 different sports during the four-day competition.
