LORNE will field a cricket team for the first time in eight years after being forced into recess due to lack of numbers.<\/p>\n
Lorne Cricket Club president Darren Balderas has spent recent months gathering a squad to form a Dolphins First XI side.<\/p>\n
As a result, Lorne Dolphins will be a member of the Colac & District Cricket Association’s (CDCA) Division 3.<\/p>\n
“It’s just fantastic to have the local cricket club back up and running again,” Balderas said.<\/p>\n
“The past two years with COVID and struggling with that, and not having something else for the kids to do, have been difficult to say the least.<\/p>\n
“It hasn’t just affected Lorne, it has also affected players from Aireys Inlet, Anglesea and even Melbourne who were keen to play, but this season we’re excited for everyone to join in.”<\/p>\n
CDCA B Grade premiers in 2011, Lorne has more than 15 players ready to play in 2022\/23, but one major task needs to be completed according to Balderas: the club is in desperate need of a treasurer.<\/p>\n
“That’s our main obstacle, currently.<\/p>\n
“Everything else has fallen into place.<\/p>\n
“We also have weekly dinners fully catered every Thursday night at the new pavilion at Stribling Reserve where we sell raffle tickets as well.”<\/p>\n
Balderas hopes to acquire a further five or so players to accommodate any absences throughout the coming campaign.<\/p>\n
The Dolphins face off against Tomahawk Creek at Stribling Reserve in Round 1 on October 22 to kick off the season.<\/p>\n
