TBC has kicked 2018 off with a bang!<\/p>\n
Last week, we started with our first junior aggregate for the year. After poor wave conditions on the Saturday, Sunday provided the juniors with fun and contestable waves at main peak Jan Juc.<\/p>\n
The juniors were ripping and we saw the following take out their divisions: Willis Droomer (Under 14 Boys), Emily McGettigan (Under 14 Girls), Remy Filer (Under 12 Boys), Sara Hickson (Under 12 Girls), Jarvis Barrow (Under 10) and Tully Gordon (Under 8). Well done to all the other competitors and good luck in the next event!<\/p>\n
It did not stop there for the Groms, though, on Sunday night they were thrown straight into TBC\u2019s second Wings camp. The Wings camp is part of Torquay Boardriders Club\u2019s ongoing commitment to developing our junior athletes.<\/p>\n
The 2018 incarnation of Wings was run in partnership with the Surfing Victoria Performance Division, headed up by TBC president Cahill Bell-Warren.<\/p>\n
\u201cWings week was a cracker, it was great for our juniors to be immersed in all things surfing; from board design to sponsorship management and coaching,\u201d Cahill said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was really impressed with the standard of work ethic from the kids during the coaching sessions and from all reports the breath training with Mitch Barrow was a great addition to the Wings program this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Groms finished the week with pizza from our latest club sponsor Dough Bros on Thursday night for a much-needed rest before school went back.<\/p>\n
\u201cA huge thank you goes to Surfing Victoria, Jack Perry and Adam Robertson for passing on some words of wisdom to the Groms.\u201d<\/p>\n
To continue the very busy start to the year, TBC held its Australia Day single fin contest. As always it was a day full of handjives, soul arches, modern takes on retro surfing, beach cricket and barbecues.<\/p>\n
The heats were filled with jammed-packed action all day, with competitors aged from eight to 60 years old; it was an epic celebration of the club community.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the waves didn\u2019t show up for the final and it ended up being Cody Robinson using his QS smarts to snag a few waves under the pack to take out the win.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to win the Single Fin event! Especially with the board raffle for the final; it has to be one of the hardest events to win,\u201d Cody said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would have been nice for a few more waves in the final, but it was a great day to take the win and spend Australia Day at the beach with the TBC family.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
