{"id":60797,"date":"2022-10-24T04:00:58","date_gmt":"2022-10-23T17:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=60797"},"modified":"2022-10-24T13:56:26","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T02:56:26","slug":"monica-hayes-community-award-launched-for-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/monica-hayes-community-award-launched-for-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Monica Hayes community award launched for 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BELLARINE residents turned out for the official launch of the 2023 Monica Hayes Award, which celebrates and recognises women making a positive community impact.<\/p>\n<p>The Monica Hayes Award was founded in 2017 by the Northern Bellarine International Women&#8217;s Day Commitee and exists to remember close friend and local icon Monica Hayes who made a significant impact in the local community through her leadership and advocacy for women.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60798\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60798\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60798 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/MonicaHAyesAwardNigh_09343-640x320.jpg?_t=1666065842\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60798\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Bellarine community officially came together at Saints and Sailors Portarlington to launch the award for 2023.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After losing her battle to Motor Neuron Disease in 2016, Mrs Hayes is remembered as a feminist, community leader and volunteer who gave her all to help community groups like her local primary school, Bellarine Community Health and Portarlington Community Association.<\/p>\n<p>Monday evening&#8217;s event officially opened 2023 award nominations, with both members of the Northern Bellarine Women&#8217;s Day Commitee and Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville MP in attendance to kick off the search for a community hero.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60799\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60799\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/MonicaHAyesAwardNigh_09327.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bellarine MP Lisa Neville was in attendance to launch the award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Monica was a very valued friend and was an important role model for women and girls in the way that she operated,&#8221; North Bellarine IWD committee member Jenni Wills said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She was a very inclusive leader which is what led to her having such great success in the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wills said that the Northern Bellarine International Women&#8217;s Day Committee are thoroughly looking forward to having their IWD luncheon back on in 2023, where they will crown the Monica Hayes Award winner.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60807\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60807\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60807 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/MonicaHAyesAwardDebM_09308-1-640x320.jpg?_t=1666065721\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60807\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deb Menzies and Karen King.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are inviting nominations by the closing date of November 25 from across the Northern Bellarine, and welcome nominations from women of all ages whose endeavours and active community involvement make a difference for others, and in particular for women and girls,&#8221;
