Ms Pearl said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 618px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/IMG_7225_82669.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"412\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Event organiser Hannah Pearl hopes the annual walk continues to reach other local families down the track.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Last year&#8217;s walk and market was coming out of the backend of COVID, a time that we just needed to get smiles on faces, whereas today [Sunday] our HeartKids families can lean on each other and network.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Similar to last year, market stalls, children&#8217;s activities and food trucks lined the area next to Bunjil&#8217;s Nest Playground on Armstrong Boulevard, alongside community groups including Armstrong Creek Football Netball Club and Grovedale CFA.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 786px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/IMG_7295_04257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"786\" height=\"524\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the Armstrong Creek Football Netball Club made the trip out to assist with the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Among the families were the Kolegas, including mother Leah, father Steve and their three boys Sam, Thomas and Connor, who were selected to be Geelong&#8217;s ambassadors for the event, and led the 4km walk.<\/p>\n<p>Both Thomas and Connor are HeartKids living with congenital heart defects, with Connor not meeting his brothers until he was three months old due to immediate open-heart surgery combined with pandemic restrictions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/IMG_7301_44581.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"507\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Left to right: Volunteers on the day such as Ashlea, Bec and Mel at the event&#8217;s entrance were a huge part of the proceedings.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Kolega said she was surprised that her family were asked to be ambassadors for Sunday&#8217;s walk but was honoured to take on the mantle alongside her loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The event is a wonderful way for families to meet other families who know exactly what you are going through, connecting with each other and sharing emotions,&#8221;
