{"id":61461,"date":"2022-11-06T04:00:47","date_gmt":"2022-11-05T17:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=61461"},"modified":"2022-11-03T13:43:08","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T02:43:08","slug":"boroughs-flora-on-full-display-at-open-gardens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/boroughs-flora-on-full-display-at-open-gardens\/","title":{"rendered":"Borough&#8217;s flora on full display at Open Gardens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A HANDFUL of Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff residences are in full bloom as part of Uniting Queenscliff&#8217;s Open Garden Day next Saturday, exhibiting a full display of native and exotic flora for garden enthusiasts to browse at leisure.<\/p>\n<p>Among the five gardens are Point Lonsdale residents Roger and Maddie Stone, whose property on Santa Monica Boulevard will allow visitors to wander through, taking in their plant-laden walkways and handmade ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Stone, who has over 50 years of experience in landscaping, said he is looking forward to opening his doors to the public.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/11\/IMG_7509_55269.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Roger and Maddie within one of their walkways surrounded by native flora.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Our garden is definitely something Maddie and I are proud of and something we love doing, and we&#8217;re excited to share it with the community,&#8221; Mr Stone said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It should be a good experience and we already have quite a few friends coming down from Melbourne to see what we&#8217;ve been up to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/11\/IMG_7504_22830.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Stone&#8217;s garden will be one of five open to the public next Saturday across Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dubbed &#8216;Devonshire Teas&#8217;, the Stone&#8217;s garden is the result of six years of hard work, situated on the back of Lake Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>The garden retains existing trees shrubs and stonework and repurposed found objects from bicycle wheels to metallic sculptures, adding a flair to the flora on display.<\/p>\n<p>Creatively designed, the mainly native garden features local indigenous plants, exotic species, bush tucker, vegetables, herbs and fruit trees, and also acts a haven for wildlife, attracting birds, insects, skinks and the occasional barn owl.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/11\/IMG_7496_38402.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"708\" height=\"472\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Stones consider themselves to have cultivated &#8220;an environment rather than a plant collection&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re only in the learning stages of a lot of the things that we&#8217;re trying to do in our garden, but that is what keeps us going after all these years,&#8221; Ms Stone said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 659px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/11\/IMG_7489_11919.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"659\" height=\"439\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Metallic sculptures can be found throughout the garden.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;It is also knowledge that can be shared and so I guess that was our motivation for opening up our home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Who knows?
