HUNDREDS of swimmers will dive into the ninth annual Jack Rabbit Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim at Indented Head this weekend.<\/p>\n
Held on Sunday February 11, the much-anticipated community event will take place in the calm, safe and protected waters of Half Moon Bay, with funds going towards the Indented Head Yacht Club Young Tackers Program.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s event will include an exciting new 2.5-kilometre swim, which will be held one hour earlier than the other events.<\/p>\n
The new course follows the Indented Head coastline past the wreck of the Ozone Paddle Steamer, and finishes at the same point as all other swims.<\/p>\n
Initiated in 2010, the Jack Rabbit Wreck2Reef is held in the protected waters of Half Moon Bay, which offers some of the smoothest and safest water available to competitors in Port Phillip.<\/p>\n
Last year, a record of more than 250 keen swimmers braved a cool and overcast day, and experienced some of the flattest water yet for the event.<\/p>\n
In addition to the classic 1.2-kilometre swim, a short novice 500-metre swim encourages those who have not entered an organised swim before, or were not comfortable attempting the larger distance, get involved and see an achievable goal.<\/p>\n
There is also a 300-metre swim for juniors, which includes a fun beach dig for cash and prizes.<\/p>\n
The Jack Rabbit Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim Classic is hosted and co-ordinated each year by the Indented Head Yacht Club.<\/p>\n
Two aims have underpinned the Wreck2Reef from the beginning \u2013 to provide an event that showcases the Northern Bellarine, and raise much needed funds to support healthy activities for the youth of the local area.<\/p>\n
The Jack Rabbit Wreck2Reef Open Water Swim is an officially timed event \u2013 swim result information will be available online for participants to download after the event.<\/p>\n
