{"id":61719,"date":"2022-11-15T04:00:31","date_gmt":"2022-11-14T17:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=61719"},"modified":"2022-11-10T09:34:03","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T22:34:03","slug":"same-colours-different-roles-for-cuolahan-and-savage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/same-colours-different-roles-for-cuolahan-and-savage\/","title":{"rendered":"Same colours, different roles for Cuolahan and Savage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE region&#8217;s netball scene has undergone a major coaching shift as not one but two premiership sides will feature new head coaches in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Netball League (GNL) premiers Colac Tigers will be led by former Torquay coach and Colac junior Courtney Cuolahan, meanwhile Bellarine title-holders Geelong Amateur has welcomed assistant coach Melanie Savage with open arms into its head coaching ranks following the departure of outgoing coach Riley Richardson.<\/p>\n<p>Cuolahan, a premiership winner with Torquay in 2019, said she was ready to hit the ground running with a squad that shocked many in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m excited to be spending more time with family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But from a coaching perspective, we have a really talented young list, one that I&#8217;m excited to begin working with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cuolahan said she is remaining close with Torquay to assist with its junior development, labelling it the &#8220;best of both worlds&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 422px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/11\/CourtneyCuolahan_85663.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"422\" height=\"422\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtney Cuolahan (second from left) will head up the Colac Tigers in 2023 on the back of the side&#8217;s 2022 premiership.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Colac stunned the GNL community in September by ending the seven-year reign of Newtown &amp; Chilwell, defeating the Eagles 41-33 and ending their own premiership drought of 24 years in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring the elite defensive tandem of Brooke Allan and Indya Forde, coupled with shooters Michelle and Bec Winch and a solid centre, the Tigers will likely challenge for another finals berth.<\/p>\n<p>Down at Queens Park, new Ammos coach Mel Savage and her side are eyeing up a potential repeat as she felt the time was right to resume her head coaching experience at the local level for the first time in eight years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had been approached by Ammos a couple times, but due to other commitments and my young family it didn&#8217;t come to fruition,&#8221; Savage said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The time now to take up the role is perfect and I&#8217;m excited about the opportunity to work with a side that is eager to improve and is sticking together for next season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ammos overcame a resilient Ocean Grove to take home the BNL premiership, 60-48, for the first time in six years.<\/p>\n<p>Savage will continue serving as one of the primary coaches for the Geelong Cougars in conjunction with her Ammos role, which will see her lead both the A Grade and B Grade sides.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE region&#8217;s netball scene has undergone a major coaching shift as not one but two premiership sides will feature new head coaches in 2023.
