{"id":61978,"date":"2022-11-20T04:00:06","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T17:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=61978"},"modified":"2022-11-20T04:00:06","modified_gmt":"2022-11-19T17:00:06","slug":"crowley-tops-groms-at-torquay-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/crowley-tops-groms-at-torquay-point\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowley tops Groms at Torquay Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY Point provided immaculate settings Sunday for the final day of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp, with fun sized two to three-foot waves and light offshore winds.<\/p>\n<p>Port Noarlunga South&#8217;s Ashton Crowley took out the under 14 boys with a combined score of 13.50 (out of a possible 20 points).<\/p>\n<p>Crowley was on his way to a winning heat total from the start as he scored a 7.67-point ride (out of a possible 10) by catching one of the best waves of the day and smashing out multiple critical manoeuvres.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 563px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/Under10Girls_NoahCl_61202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"563\" height=\"375\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Under 10 girls competitors pose following a heat of surfing.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;It feels really good to win this event,&#8221; Crowley said post-win.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The waves all day were heaps of fun and everyone was shredding, which was epic,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Closely behind him in second was Jan Juc&#8217;s Remy Filer with a 7.83-point ride of his own.<\/p>\n<p>This came off the back of his aggressive backhand attack, earning him the highest scoring wave of the heat, but he wasn&#8217;t able to obtain a backup score to get him into first.<\/p>\n<p>Filer was still awarded the invite to the Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps National Final Surf Camp at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC) as the highest ranked under 14 boy Victorian surfer of the event.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 551px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/11\/IsabelOBoyleChair_03422.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"367\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">U10 Girls winner Lennox Heads&#8217; Isabel O&#8217;Boyle, who secured a 9.93.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finishing in third was Jarvis Barrow (Jan Juc) on 10.10 points with Jett Blue (Thirroul) coming in fourth.<\/p>\n<p>After executing a dominating performance on day one Rose Holland (Dromana) continued her momentum into finals day as she went on to win both the under 12 and under 14 girls divisions.<\/p>\n<p>In both finals Holland was able to score a 6.17-point ride through her swooping backhand carves.<\/p>\n<p>This combined with some solid back up rides gave her the combined heat totals of 11.17 and 10.17 and the edge over her competitors to take the win in both divisions.<\/p>\n<p>Coming in second place in the under 14 girls final was Dune Pruvot (Torquay) on 10.17 points with Lillian Bassed (Sandy Point) and Billie Cook (Billie Cook) finishing in third and fourth respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Placing second in the under 12 girls was Elsie Chapman (Point Lonsdale) on 8.16 points with Scarlett Rennie (Cape Woolamai) and Isabel O&#8217;Boyle (Lennox Head) finishing in third and fourth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY Point provided immaculate settings Sunday for the final day of the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp, with fun sized two to three-foot waves and light offshore winds.
