{"id":62123,"date":"2022-11-23T13:20:17","date_gmt":"2022-11-23T02:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/volleyfest-to-spike-region-into-a-frenzy\/"},"modified":"2022-11-23T14:05:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T03:05:13","slug":"volleyfest-to-spike-region-into-a-frenzy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/volleyfest-to-spike-region-into-a-frenzy\/","title":{"rendered":"Volleyfest to spike region into a frenzy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATHLETES from more than 24 nations will call Torquay home until December 4 during the Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest which launched today 9Wednesday, November 23).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bqGITOetKzM\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The volleyball festival features two stages of the Volleyball World Pro Tour and the opening round of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour, featuring some of the best beach volleyball talent from across the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delivered by Volleyball Australia at a temporary event village on Elephant Walk, the festival features competition courts with a total capacity of 1,900 spectators, training courts, entertainment, and sports development opportunities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Headlining the first stage of the Pro Tour, the Challenge event, will be Australia\u2019s Commonwealth Games Gold Medallists Chris McHugh and Paul Burnett, who will get the opportunity to play on home sand for the first time since their victory in Birmingham 2022.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will also line up in next week\u2019s Pro Tour Elite 16 competition, alongside Olympic and Commonwealth silver medallists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The events will attract about 450 competitors and support crew from around the globe competing in front of thousands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The international Beach Pro Tour features the world\u2019s top teams, and the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour event is one of six premier elite domestic events staged across the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beach volleyball is due to feature in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, and the Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest will help build interest in the sport and show regional Victoria\u2019s ability to host significant sporting events.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The schedule for the Pro Tour is outlined below (all times local):<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Pro Tour &#8211; CHALLENGE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">November 23 &#8211; Qualifications. Competition from noon<br \/>\nNovember 24-25 &#8211; Pool Games. Competition 9am<br \/>\nNovember 26 &#8211; Semi Finals 6-10pm<br \/>\nNovember 27 &#8211; Finals Women noon-2pm and Men 5-7pm<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Pro Tour &#8211; ELITE 16<br \/>\n<\/strong>November 29 &#8211; Qualifications. Competition from 10am<br \/>\nNovember 30-December 1 &#8211; Pool Games.
