Deck Doc is Australian made and owned by Robert and Rhinda Hylands.<\/p>\n
Robert developed a unique Lanolin based formula and has been producing it in Geelong for the past 15 years.<\/p>\n
Robert and Rhinda previously owned a factory producing hand-carved, hand-painted wooden birds, including wooden decoy ducks used by duck hunters. The ducks had to have a natural UV barrier to prevent fading and in addition the timber had to be totally waterproofed.<\/p>\n
It was found in their research that conventional timber care products dried, solidified and contained mostly toxic drying agents.<\/p>\n
As timber is continuously swelling and shrinking, these products form a solid membrane on the surface, creating cracks and peeling, providing no preservation and little to no protection to the timber. Robert realised it was necessary to develop a product that would absorb into the timber, stay soft, pliable and move with the timber to give total preservation and protection.<\/p>\n
The surface needed to withstand a high degree of scuff and abrasion, while remaining totally waterproof with excellent UV absorption.<\/p>\n
A major breakthrough came when Rhinda \u2013 who grew up on a sheep farm at Lethbridge – realised the potential of using lanolin as an ingredient in timber oils.<\/p>\n
Lanolin found in wool waterproofs, insulates and protects sheep from the cold, wind, rain and harmful UV sun rays.<\/p>\n
Included in their unique formula is an anti-fungal additive. This additive is extensively used in agriculture to prevent root rot in crops and is an ideal pest repellent (termites) as well as being a fire retardant.<\/p>\n
