{"id":62784,"date":"2022-12-12T14:50:12","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T03:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/torquay-pair-achieve-dux-status-at-geelong-college\/"},"modified":"2022-12-12T16:18:30","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T05:18:30","slug":"torquay-pair-achieve-dux-status-at-geelong-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/torquay-pair-achieve-dux-status-at-geelong-college\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay pair achieve dux status at Geelong College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG College duo Bailey Gait and Remy Locke have topped their cohort to be jointly awarded their school&#8217;s dux with an ATAR score of 99.50.<\/p>\n<p>The Torquay pair, who have been friends for just under 10 years, received the good news today (Monday, December 12) as VCE results were released to 2022 Year 12 students across the state this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey said it was a proud and surreal moment to finish her studies, particularly after several difficult pandemic-interrupted years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really proud moment and I am so happy that all the hard work that I have put in has come off throughout my time at Geelong College,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really hoped a girl would get the dux of the College and when I found out it was myself and Remy, it made it even better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemy and I have been friends and played soccer since we were 10 years old, so it\u2019s special to share it with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62765\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62765\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62765 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/IMG_7224_12727-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1670816918\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62765\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gait and Locke have been friends for close to ten years, having played soccer together as children<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gait completed French, Chemistry, English and Mathematic Methods in 2022, while she studied Further Mathematics and Legal Studies in 2021 in Year 11.<\/p>\n<p>Remy was also excited to have completed her studies, and said she was relieved that students across the state experienced an almost pre-COVID year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just glad that we got to have a COVID-free year and got to do all the amazing, fun things that Year 12 students do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year I did Physical Education, English, Maths Methods and Chemistry and then last year I did Psychology and Further Maths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was so surreal and such a &#8216;wow&#8217; moment when I was told by Dr Miller that I was the co-dux.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve loved everything about being at Geelong College.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62764\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62764\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62764 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/12\/IMG_7245_12765-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1670816915\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62764\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some of Geelong College&#8217;s highest achievers.
