{"id":62923,"date":"2022-12-19T04:00:47","date_gmt":"2022-12-18T17:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=62923"},"modified":"2022-12-15T08:43:00","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T21:43:00","slug":"solar-program-endorsed-by-council-for-early-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/solar-program-endorsed-by-council-for-early-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Solar program endorsed by Council for early-2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFFE Climate Action Now (QCAN) is launching a community solar program for residents, businesses, and community organisations in early 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The program, which is supported by Borough of Queenscliffe, aims to reduce confusion surrounding accessing solar technologies and encourage an uptake in renewable energy technology across the Borough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our primary aim is to make installing solar, batteries and heat pumps easy and affordable,&#8221; QCAN president Kitty Walker said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Navigating what system you need and which installer to trust can be confusing, so we&#8217;re doing the hard work to find the best package that will ultimately save you money on energy bills and dramatically reduce our community&#8217;s emissions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>QCAN has supported the Point Lonsdale Bowls Club (PLBC) board to install a solar panel system to help reduce the club&#8217;s power bills and their emissions profile.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 572px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/IMG_8533_99972.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"382\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">QCAN president Kitty Walker in front of the Point Lonsdale Bowls Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>PLBC chair Rob Nicholls said QCAN provided peace of mind throughout the process which was invaluable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was no point in getting three quotes if we couldn&#8217;t understand them,&#8221; Mr Nicholls said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;QCAN&#8217;s support was the critical factor. We had the security of going with something tried and true.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>QCAN is calling for expressions of interest from a range of experienced renewable energy companies to find a reliable and trustworthy solar retailer who can deliver competitively priced, quality products.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/IMG_8538_50540.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"407\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A system of solar panels has already been installed on Point Lonsdale Bowls Club&#8217;s roof as part of the new QCAN program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Walker said the group will undertake a thorough due diligence process with the help of an independent renewable energy consultant to ensure it selects the best delivery partner for this program.<\/p>\n<p>Borough mayor Isabelle Tolhurst said the program fell in line with the borough&#8217;s nationally recognised climate emergency response plan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really about the filling the core goals surrounding that, emissions reduction and renewable energy usage,&#8221; Cr Tolhurst said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, we think that this program is a real fitting example of what the community can do to come together to achieve those goals.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/IMG_8518_21224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"307\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Borough Mayor Isabelle Tolhurst with Point Lonsdale&#8217;s main strip in the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re always on the lookout for local business with an abundance of roof space to help accelerate the adoption of renewables.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The program will be launched at a major community meeting in mid-February 2023, but those wishing to get started earlier can do so by contacting QCAN via its website at www.queenscliffeclimateaction.org\/communitysolar<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFFE Climate Action Now (QCAN) is launching a community solar program for residents, businesses, and community organisations in early 2023.
