Photos: MICHAEL CHAMBERS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And thanks to all those who were part of the set up and pack down teams\u2026 the hardest part of the event.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There were similar scenes of merriment at the Barwon Heads community hall on the following Sunday for the carols hosted by the town&#8217;s Fine Music Society, with standing room only in the venue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We haven&#8217;t had it since 2019, that&#8217;s why it was so fantastic that we filled the hall and there were people standing in the aisles,&#8221; Barwon Heads Fine Music Society president Maggie Isom said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63205\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63205\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63205\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/0G2A7244inchargeofdo_80208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-63205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sophie Davidson, Andrew Beckham and Doug Whon look after donations.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were worried that people wouldn&#8217;t come due to COVID, but it was just great to have the music back in Barwon Heads again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With conductor Terry Norman at the helm and Ian Cover from Coodabeen Champions fame MC&#8217;ing the night, the Barwon Heads Chorale had pianist Sara Brownell providing the musical accompaniment along with long time violinist Kel Parry and her three children; Jess on violin, Chloe on the cello and Raf on the clarinet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The whole community turned out, it was terrific,&#8221; Ms Isom said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63209\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63209\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63209\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/IMG_0076Handingoutso_63864.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-63209\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jo Chandra handing out song sheets at Portarlington.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The audience joined in with about ten carols, and we really had fun singing the 12 days of Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We raised money to go to the Christmas bowl, which supports refugees and people without any food, it&#8217;s one of the Uniting Churches fundraisers that stretches around the world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the community gets together again and sings it&#8217;s really good fun, it&#8217;s good for your health and mental wellbeing\u2026 there was one year olds and 90 years olds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63211\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63211\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-63211\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/IMG_0124GillianCosta_63926.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-63211\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Andy Pobjoy and Gillian Costa get ready to help host the evening.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bellarine came together for a weekend of carols with Portarlington and Barwon Heads putting on their biggest Christmas celebrations in years.
