POINT Lonsdale Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC) has given a heartfelt thank-you to the Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff communities for their generosity in the club’s annual door knock.<\/p>\n
All $19,000 raised so far in this year’s fundraising push will go towards the club’s Nippers programs and lifesaving equipment, as well as keeping the borough’s beaches safe.<\/p>\n
Point Lonsdale SLSC president Charlie Pitney said the club was extremely grateful for the community’s response.<\/p>\n
“Every year when the door knock comes around, we can’t thank the community enough.<\/p>\n
“We’ve already conducted a number of rescues this season already and we don’t take for granted that Point Lonsdale back beach is one of the most dangerous beaches in Victoria, a reminder of just how important the funds we receive are.<\/p>\n
“The fundraising will also allow us to produce more initiatives and more programs for community to engage with.”<\/p>\n
Point Lonsdale SLSC’s fundraising total is expected to pass $20,000 this year, but Mr Pitney is hopeful borough residents would still consider joining the club as full members.<\/p>\n
“Lifesaving offers so many opportunities across a range of levels whether it be to be a member of this club and enhance your professional skills and leadership qualities, or the fitness and aquatic side of things,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We’re all volunteers here, and not only do we appreciate what people are putting in, we all get so much out of it as well.”<\/p>\n
So far this summer, Point Lonsdale SLSC’s volunteer patrols have recorded six rescues and more than 1,100 preventative actions.<\/p>\n
