JIRRAHLINGA Wildlife Sanctuary is selling its land in Barwon Heads as part of a bigger plan to relocate.<\/p>\n
News of the Taits Road property\u2019s listing caused a panic among locals when it hit social media earlier this week, but volunteer Kellie Grant has confirmed that the sanctuary itself is not for sale, just the land.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe owners Tehree Gordon and her husband Hamish have been looking to relocate for the past five years,\u201d Mrs Grant said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Taits Road continues to build up the busses are struggling to access the sanctuary and even cars.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur facilities here are old and run down so we are looking forward to opening somewhere new, with new cages and compounds \u2013 a fresh start.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mrs Grant reassured locals that all the animals would remain safe and unharmed during the move, and that other sanctuaries had put their hands up to help if needed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve identified a few site possibilities, but it\u2019s all going to take a little while,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd all of our staff and volunteers have been given the option to come with us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jirrahlinga Wildlife Sanctuary\u2019s land, which comprises 2.023 hectares, is listed on realcommercial.com.au with a price tag of $2.98 million.<\/p>\n
The description states that concept plans have been created for a conference venue, which are available upon request, but that the property might suit a number of other options.<\/p>\n
\u201cZoned FZ (farming Zone) and within the Greater Geelong precinct, the property is currently being operated as a wildlife sanctuary and can be sold with vacant possession,\u201d the site states.<\/p>\n
Mr and Mrs Gordon established Jirrahlinga more than 40 years ago, and have done an exceptional job in saving and rehabilitating Australian wildlife since they started.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
