{"id":6482,"date":"2018-02-16T08:30:46","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T08:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=6482"},"modified":"2018-02-16T08:30:46","modified_gmt":"2018-02-16T08:30:46","slug":"juniors-power-newcomb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/juniors-power-newcomb\/","title":{"rendered":"Juniors power up at Newcomb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The newcomb power Football Club is moving up the Bellarine competition and its junior section is leading the way.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday February 25 families will get the opportunity to meet the team behind the old powerhouse\u2019s resurrection during their junior registration day.<\/p>\n<p>Junior co-ordinator Scott Smith said Newcomb was a community club that provided kids the opportunity to play football by keeping costs family-friendly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery Sunday, we\u2019re at the Bellarine Village doing a sausage sizzle to raise funds so that families can pay less for their kids to play footy then they would anywhere else,\u201d Mr Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith us they pay a heavily reduced membership and unlike some places where you\u2019re just paying for membership, we include a training top, hoodie, shorts and socks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Smith said having played football at Newcomb in the 80s he returned to the junior section six years ago and has watched numbers soar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe virtually had no juniors when I arrived and 20 Auskickers, since then we\u2019ve rebuilt it and will be fielding a team within every age group this year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to attract between 160-180 kids this season, it\u2019s a fantastic family club and with the senior section improving more families are hanging around and wanting to be involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Newcomb Power Football Club caters for kids from 5 to 19 and has embraced girls\u2019 football fielding two teams this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past six years we\u2019ve been running a program with five local primary schools and three clinics at each school then we have a super clinic at Newcomb Power with 750 kids,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s been the key to our success, putting a football in a kid\u2019s hand that and a fantastic group of people made up of parents and junior committee members that help out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newcomb senior coach Rory Nicol said because of the points system it was essential to have strong juniors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important you have your Under 19s in the division one, division two to ensure your club\u2019s longevity and the best way to do that is to build a strong junior section, which is what Newcomb is doing,\u201d Mr Nicol said.<\/p>\n<p>Costs for the 2018 season:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Auskick &#8211; register online and receive free football boots and hoodie for $95<br \/>\n&#8211; U9s, 10s, 11s and U12 Girls receive a free training top, hoodie, shorts and socks for $90<br \/>\n&#8211; U13s, 15s, 17s and U15 Girls receive a free training top, hoodie, shorts and socks for $110<\/p>\n<p>The junior football and registration day on February 25 will be at the netball rooms near the top oval and will run from 10 until 12pm, for more information phone Scott Smith on 0403 017 977.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/The-Newcomb-Power-Football-Club.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/The-Newcomb-Power-Football-Club.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"244\" height=\"199\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/The-Newcomb-Power-Football-Club.jpg 244w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/The-Newcomb-Power-Football-Club-24x20.jpg 24w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/The-Newcomb-Power-Football-Club-36x29.jpg 36w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/The-Newcomb-Power-Football-Club-48x39.jpg 48w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 244px) 100vw, 244px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The newcomb power Football Club is moving up the Bellarine competition and its junior section is leading the way.
