{"id":65130,"date":"2023-02-10T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T17:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=65130"},"modified":"2023-02-10T04:00:13","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T17:00:13","slug":"two-code-league-confirmed-by-afl-barwon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/two-code-league-confirmed-by-afl-barwon\/","title":{"rendered":"Two-code league confirmed by AFL Barwon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">AFL BARWON has announced a national first, establishing Australia\u2019s first All-Abilities Football Netball League to begin this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The All-Abilities Football Netball League will add an extra element of diversity and community opportunities to play in both codes, an exciting addition to AFL Barwon\u2019s competition ranks, according to the organisation\u2019s regional manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development of the AFL Barwon All Abilities Football Netball League is a culmination of tireless enthusiasm and resourcing, across several groups of dedicated individuals to make this League, a reality,\u201d Edward Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>The All-Abilities football competition will be initiated in its inaugural season by four clubs: Bell Park FNC, Geelong West Giants FNC, Newcomb FNC and St Joseph\u2019s FNC.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the football league\u2019s structure, matches will take place fortnightly with each participating club hosting the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The existing All-Abilities Netball competition will be aligned to the new league. It will also look to move to a club-based operation on a weekly basis. The season fixture will be released in February.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 475px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/02\/B07K8542-SurfCoastS_16507.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"317\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Surf Coast Suns already boasts an All-Abilities netball side. Photo: PETER MARSHALL<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 2023 season is expected to start in the week of April 29 and run until August 12.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAFL Barwon acknowledges the opportunity this League will provide to the local community and is grateful for the expertise of Leisure Networks, and the four inaugural Clubs, in partnership, to drive our vision and strategy,\u201d Mr Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll aspects of league administration, competition and operational management have been devised with the participant and participation in mind.
