DRYSDALE’S Potato Shed has begun a search for its new community representative to join its Committee of Management.<\/p>\n
Potato Shed chair and City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the theatre\u2019s ideal candidate will help the committee make a difference on the Bellarine, ensuring the Potato Shed continues to provide relevant services, opportunities, and benefits to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ideal candidate will be a person who has a strong interest in the local arts, and in particular local theatre, and someone who knows and respects the venue,\u201d Mr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis could be a patron or a member of one of the community groups who utilise the facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Potato Shed has continued to facilitate the development and realisation of the creative arts, especially the performing arts along the Bellarine, since it was officially opened in 2001.<\/p>\n
Now the venue is seen as the City of Greater Geelong\u2019s own arts facility for education and training opportunities for young people seeking to engage in artistic pursuits.<\/p>\n
Mr Sullivan listed several obligations the community representative would need to fulfil upon their appointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe successful candidate would need to attend Committee of Management meetings and ensure that the venue operates under the Joint Use Agreement with the Council and the two partner schools [Bellarine Secondary College and Saint Ignatius College], whilst still providing opportunities for other users and community groups,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community representative will work with Council and the schools to shape the future direction and expansion of the facility.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis includes promoting and advocating for the venue, its activities, and its programs.\u201d<\/p>\n
