SUSIE Zada is a local historian and genealogist who will be joining with Kings Funerals to present a series of free presentations about local and family history.<\/p>\n
The first in the series will be held on February 21, and focus on Point Henry\u2019s history as an immigration and export port, as well as a tourist destination.<\/p>\n
Kings Funeral general manager Beth King believes the session will appeal to those interested in Point Henry\u2019s local and family history stories.<\/p>\n
Family history will cover topics associated with the thousands of immigrants landing at Point Henry between the 1840s and 1890s.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s now the second largest immigration port in Victoria because of the large overseas ships that couldn\u2019t get through the sandbars into Geelong. Many local residents would have had ancestors land at Point Henry.<\/p>\n
Local history discussions will include Point Henry\u2019s stint as a tourist mecca in the1860s-1890s. It was also Victoria’s largest export port during the 19th century.<\/p>\n
Susie\u2019s love of history began back in the 1960s at school, with a teacher who was incredibly passionate about the subject of history.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love researching the areas where I live or visit, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others in acasual and free setting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI promise my sessions are never boring either!\u201d<\/p>\n
This is a free event, hosted at Kings Chapel, 130 Bellarine Highway, Newcomb from 1pm-2pm.<\/p>\n
