{"id":66139,"date":"2023-03-10T04:06:12","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T17:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=66139"},"modified":"2023-03-09T13:12:50","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T02:12:50","slug":"meadow-makes-a-mark-as-environmental-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/meadow-makes-a-mark-as-environmental-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"Meadow makes a mark as environmental leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEADOW has taken centre stage as a local event that is planting a seed with patrons to foster a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>The Bambra music festival &#8211; to be held from March 31 to April 2 &#8211; continues to roll out initiatives to help protect the hinterland.<\/p>\n<p>Meadow co-founder Cameron Wade highlighted the festival&#8217;s collaboration with sustainability social enterprise B-Alternative.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;B-Alternative helps organisations eradicate waste by offering sustainable alternatives like fully recyclable plates and crockery, no single-use food items, and separated recycling including an organics stream that generates compost from food waste,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll be taking full advantage of all the systems they offer to minimise Meadow&#8217;s impact on the environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Meanwhile, all proceeds from festival car passes will continue to support the replanting of native trees and shrubs across the festival site and surrounding areas via East Otway Landcare.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_95674\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95674\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-95674\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/2-Meadow-2022-Kirsty_31741.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-95674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meadow is collaborating with sustainability social enterprise B-Alternative. Photo: KIRSTY RENEE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re proud that hundreds of trees planted from 2020 onwards are starting to mature into regenerated bushy environments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also take care to source as many of our service providers and facilities hirers from as close to the festival site as possible, to reduce travelling and transport impacts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast Shire mayor Liz Pattison was pleased to see events such as Meadow aligning with the Surf Coast community vision: &#8220;we will leave the Surf Coast better than we found it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think every year we run Meadow, we are making a contribution to this vision,&#8221; Mr Wade said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With regard to sustainability initiatives, we&#8217;re always trying to do more and I think we are certainly leaving the Surf Coast a better place for the effort we make in this space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meadow festivalgoers are encouraged to carpool or use a shuttle service, bring their own cups and refillable water bottles, and to pack-up well.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_95677\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95677\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-95677\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/By-The-Meadow-2016-1_39822.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-95677\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meadow aligns with the Surf Coast community vision: \u201cwe will leave the Surf Coast better than we found it\u201d.
