Photo: CHRISTOPHER HOWE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Known as one of the shorter ocean races of its kind at only 114 miles (183km), the King Island Ocean Yacht Race makes up for it in difficulty, due to the currents surrounding King Island.<\/p>\n<p>Against more than 30 boats, the Barwon Heads local in Buchholz said he was thrilled to steer his team through the rough waters to come out on top.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96056\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96056\" style=\"width: 412px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96056 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/Extadad_70251-2-e1678836206691-412x380.jpg?_t=1678836207\" alt=\"\" width=\"412\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96056\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Buchholz steered Extasea to victory in the King Island Ocean Yacht Race. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did very well\u2026 the race itself was a bit fluky, but we did very well,&#8221; Buchholz said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were stoked, it was a pretty tricky race\u2026 going through the Heads was not too bad, and till around 10pm the breeze stayed in and then it petered out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We kept going South and plenty of others headed East and fell in a hole, but we did the same and were going around in circles a couple of hours later.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Once the wind kicked South West it gave us a bit of an advantage and we had about a 25 to 30-mile lead on the other boats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96061\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96061\" style=\"width: 354px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96061 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/IMG_1121_70241-1-scaled-e1678836437963-354x380.jpg?_t=1678836439\" alt=\"\" width=\"354\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96061\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The race took the Geelong team just over 20 hours to complete.
