A LOCAL coastcare group is on the hunt for new volunteers as it enters its third year in the Borough of Queenscliffe.<\/p>\n
The ‘Borough Coastcarer’ conservation initiative, co-ordinated between the Borough Council and the Bellarine Catchment Network, was formed in 2021 at the height of the pandemic to restore habitat and remove invasive weeds at locations across Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale.<\/p>\n
Now in its third year, BCN program manager Matt Crawley said spots are available for new additions to lend a helping hand.<\/p>\n
“Volunteers have the opportunity to connect with nature, whilst making a difference through applying bush regeneration techniques,” Mr Crawley said.<\/p>\n
“Other benefits include meeting new people, improving physical and mental health benefits, whilst improving the local environment.”<\/p>\n
Volunteers are guided by Bellarine Catchment Network Biodiversity staff on the first and second Tuesday of each month at the Rip View (second Tuesday) and Narrows (first Tuesday) sites from 10.00am to 12.00pm.<\/p>\n
Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor and Councillor Isabelle Tolhurst encouraged locals and visitors to strongly consider joining the Coastcarer initiative and make real environmental impact.<\/p>\n
“The program is a wonderful initiative that provides local residents with the opportunity to assist Council in protecting and enhancing biodiversity values within the Borough,” Cr Tolhurst said.<\/p>\n
