{"id":6868,"date":"2018-02-25T22:55:42","date_gmt":"2018-02-25T22:55:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=6868"},"modified":"2018-02-25T22:55:42","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T22:55:42","slug":"breabach-descend-port-fairy-folkie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/living\/breabach-descend-port-fairy-folkie\/","title":{"rendered":"Breabach to descend on Port Fairy folkie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Scottish five-piece Breabach deliver a thrilling and unique brand of contemporary folk music that has earned them international recognition on the world and roots music scene as one of the UK\u2019s most dynamic and exciting bands.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Scots will be performing at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, running March 9-12.<\/p>\n<p>The music on their latest album takes inspiration from the beauty of both the places and people the band have visited and the wonderful musicians and cultures encountered along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Working with producer Greg Lawson the band has taken melodic, rhythmic and harmonic ideas from each of the countries they\u2019ve visited.<\/p>\n<p>The lead single from the album is \u201cThe Last March\u201d, composed by the late great Cape Breton fiddler John Morris Rankin.<\/p>\n<p>Rankin was one of the most highly revered and influential fiddlers and composers of all time and sadly lost his life in a tragic car accident in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>His spirit and music live on through recordings, sessions and festivals all over the world and this melody with Breabach is thought to be one of the last he ever composed.<\/p>\n<p>The album includes Australian musicians Yidaki (didgeridoo) player Mark Atkins, performing on \u201cThe Last March\u201d, \u201cThe Striking Clock\u201d and \u201cThe White Sand of Jervis Bay\u201d, with Aboriginal artist Yirrmal Marika singing a traditional song from Arnhem Land on \u201cThe White Sand of Jervis Bay\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering an increasingly mature repertoire and live performance while continuing to build their reputation at the forefront of the UK\u2019s world and roots music scene, this is a band at the very top of their game and one not to be missed!<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the Port Fairy Folk festival, visit portfairyfolkfestival.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scottish five-piece Breabach deliver a thrilling and unique brand of contemporary folk music that has earned them international recognition on the world and roots music scene as one of the UK\u2019s most dynamic and exciting bands.
