{"id":68693,"date":"2023-05-04T12:39:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-04T02:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=68693"},"modified":"2023-05-04T12:39:00","modified_gmt":"2023-05-04T02:39:00","slug":"sailors-cast-off-for-indented-head-for-sail-bellarine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/sailors-cast-off-for-indented-head-for-sail-bellarine\/","title":{"rendered":"Sailors cast off for Indented Head for Sail Bellarine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UPWARDS of 130 vessels are primed and ready to brace Port Phillip Bay&#8217;s water conditions as the third annual Sail Bellarine regatta kicks off this weekend at Indented Head Yacht Club.<\/p>\n<p>Indented Head Yacht Club commodore John Walter said this year&#8217;s event features an increased cap of 150 boats to take part.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the biggest edition of the regatta to date as Sail Bellarine continues to grow in size.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From what I understand, this year&#8217;s event will be one of the biggest sailing events across the entire state this year, it&#8217;s going to be our biggest one to date easily,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 411px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/IMG_7679_23078.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"411\" height=\"274\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boats will launch off Indented Head Yacht Club over Saturday and Sunday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;This event falls on the end of the summer sailing season in May and is well received by both competitors and managing bodies, such as the City of Greater Geelong and Bellarine Bayside.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t conflict with any other major events, and it allows sailors to take in the full beauty of the Bellarine Peninsula.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>First taking place in 2021, the event is a joint collaboration between Indented Head Yacht Club, Portarlington Sailing Club and St Leonards Yacht Club &amp; Motor Squadron, with extra assistance provided by McCrae Yacht Club based out of the Mornington Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>There will be eight categories of racing over the two days, each with separates start times. The categories include Aeros, Lasers (ILCA), OKs, Optis, Sabres and Tasars-style boats.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 530px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/IMG_1880_88664.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"397\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Volunteers are briefed ahead of Sail Bellarine by organiser John Walter.
