Over the past three years, Bombora Custom Furniture have experienced an explosion of timber use in bathrooms, going from producing a couple of solid timber vanities a year to a couple per week.<\/p>\n

Alison from Bombora said the warmth and life of wood creates a visual balance with the cold and hard materials throughout the rest of space.<\/p>\n

When planning your space, there is a concept in the design industry called the rule of threes, where the main styling element is repeated thrice throughout the space.<\/p>\n

Whether this is a pop of colour in an artwork which is repeated in a piece of soft furnishing and a pot, or three timber items in a bathroom, this technique leaves a space feeling interesting yet balanced.<\/p>\n

Example of such uses of timber in the bathroom are a vanity, inbuilt cupboards or shelving, window frames, a bath niche, a timber framed mirror or a shaving cabinet.<\/p>\n

There is a misconception surrounding timber and water but with the right choice of timber and finish, timber is a material that has great longevity in the bathroom.<\/p>\n

Think of a bridge or pier; these structures are exposed to the elements for decades and still stay standing.<\/p>\n

The product that Bombora Custom Furniture use is a combination of oil and wax, the oils penetrate into the timber creating a deeper layer of protection whilst the wax sits on the top.<\/p>\n

As well as being hard-wearing, this finish is also repairable in the case of minor damage, the surface can be spot repaired with a new application of the finish or with significant scratching simply resurfaced on site.<\/p>\n
