{"id":69959,"date":"2023-06-02T04:00:12","date_gmt":"2023-06-01T18:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=69959"},"modified":"2023-06-01T12:21:31","modified_gmt":"2023-06-01T02:21:31","slug":"sliders-ready-to-brave-the-ice-at-big-freeze-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/sliders-ready-to-brave-the-ice-at-big-freeze-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Sliders ready to brave the ice at Big Freeze Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EXCITEMENT is brewing within the Greater Geelong community for this weekend\u2019s second annual Big Freeze Geelong, with all sights set on raising more than $100,000 for the FightMND foundation.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 17 sliders will brave the ice in their best costumes this Sunday (June 4) at Drysdale Recreation Reserve during the BFNL clash between Drysdale and Newcomb, with funds to go towards finding a cure for motor neuron disease (MND).<\/p>\n<p>Big Freeze Geelong co-organiser Graeme Reid said the excitement was high heading into the second annual fundraiser.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69965\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69965\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-69965 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/0G2A7307-640x320.jpg?_t=1685511156\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A total of 17 sliders will go down the slide and brave the ice this Sunday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last week has been very busy putting all the final pieces together, but everyone involved is so keen to make this the best day ever, it is very exciting!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a total of 17 brave sliders going into the icy waters this year and each of them have been busy raising funds and awareness for the fight against the MND beast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of them have personal experiences and all are excited to be contributing, including our ambassadors Sam Moorfoot and James Breust have been leading the way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year we raised $62,000 and it would be great to match or beat that to support the FightMND cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hoping to get a crowd of 4000 Geelong community members down there and can\u2019t wait for the day!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69964\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69964\" style=\"width: 252px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-69964 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/0G2A7300-Organisers-Graeme-Reid-and-Lincoln-Blair-e1685511281275-252x320.jpg?_t=1685511286\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Big Freeze Geelong organisers Graeme Reid and Lincoln Blair.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The sliding will officially kick off at 1:20pm and will take place in between the seniors and reserves grade football and just after the conclusion of the A grade netball.<\/p>\n<p>This Saturday\u2019s sliders include:<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Martin &#8211;
