A FREE Community Produce Tree at Portarlington Neighbourhood House is giving members of the local community the chance to share their excess homegrown produce.<\/p>\n
The Produce Tree project is overseen by a large group of wonderful volunteers who have shared their time, ideas and efforts to create their vision and start what is now an established and active community initiative.<\/p>\n
The group hopes to host regular Port Produce Swap events for like-minded members of the community to swap produce, recipes, growing tips and just have a relaxed chat.<\/p>\n
This will be a communal style of swap, where items are placed on the table and what is needed is taken \u2013 there isn\u2019t a monetary value placed on goods to swap.<\/p>\n
The group would also like people to post a comment or photo on their Facebook page when they have dropped produce at the tree.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would also love to see what meals you have made with items obtained from the tree,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Facebook group can be used to offer produce directly from your home, whether it be offering produce you have harvested, offering produce that needs to be picked, and you may also offer eggs, preserves or jams.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Produce Tree will be open 24 hours a day seven days a week for anyone to drop off and\/or take produce at any time.<\/p>\n
Produce can be dropped off at the tree, which is located at the rear of Portarlington Neighbourhood House at 28 Brown Street, Portarlington.<\/p>\n
