THREE mature Monterey Cypress trees on the western side of Point Lonsdale Road will be removed because they present a major risk to public safety.<\/p>\n
Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Susan Salter said the council was never happy to approve the removal of trees, but in light of the risk posed and the further impact of the construction works happening at the Bellarine Community Health site, they considered that removal was the best course of action in this case.<\/p>\n
The decision to remove the trees, which are located adjacent to the Bellarine Community Health Service, has been made in consultation with qualified arborists.<\/p>\n
Assessment indicated that one of the trees was in poor condition and presented a high risk of failure, prompting serious concerns for public safety.<\/p>\n
While the second and third trees are in fair condition, presenting a medium risk of failure, their proximity to the entrance of the construction works has the potential to further reduce their health and stability.<\/p>\n
Council considered the risk assessment along with the consequent high level of public activity in the area when approving the removal of the three trees.<\/p>\n
Replanting within this area will be a high priority within the Avenue of Honour tree management plan being developed by the council with the assistance of a community reference group.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
