MORE than 150 locals have signed a petition calling on VicRoads to reconsider its plans and build the Drysdale Bypass without signalised intersections.<\/p>\n
Bellarine Community Council initiated the petition on change.org two weeks ago that will be directed to VicRoads project director Tim Price.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease build the Drysdale Bypass without the proposed three new signalised intersections (and one roundabout) at the western entrance to Drysdale and upgrade the uncontrolled intersection at Hermsley Road\/Portarlington Road to a well-designed roundabout instead of the proposed north\/south connector,\u201d the petition states.<\/p>\n
The petition comes after VicRoads received the green light early last month to complete preconstruction planning and engage a construction contractor for the bypass.<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville said she was consulting with the community every step of way as her government delivered this vital project.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to particularly thank the Drysdale and Clifton Springs Community Association, who have generously contributed their time and local knowledge over the last two years to help shape and enhance the design,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do acknowledge that there were some views against traffic lights at the Grubb Road intersection.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut extensive investigation by the independent panel, including into traffic flows now and into the future, together with differing community views supported the installation of lights.\u201d<\/p>\n
A contract for the construction of the bypass is expected to be awarded before the middle of 2018, with the project due for completion in mid-2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
