CRICKET has become more comfortable at Barwon Heads, with the construction of a new shade structure for spectators and players.<\/p>\n
Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville formally opened the shelter at Barwon Heads Village Park on Monday, which was an election promise made possible thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Andrews Labor government.<\/p>\n
Previously, spectators and players had to brave the elements, which were often extreme in the exposed location.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new shade structure will encourage more locals to head down to Village Park and enjoy some cricket,\u201d Ms Neville said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a big win for the entire Barwon Heads Cricket Club community, giving them the facilities they need and deserve.<\/p>\n
\u201cI congratulate the club\u2019s president Paul Summers, the executive committee and members for their efforts and wish them well for the remaining of the season and for many seasons to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barwon Heads Cricket Club has been going from strength to strength in recent years with 11 teams, a junior development program, and growth in female participation.<\/p>\n
The new shade structure will encourage more spectators and players to enjoy the sport.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not just cricket fans who will benefit, with the local soccer and junior football clubs using the park.<\/p>\n
