THE Bellarine Bears is inviting local all-abilities athletes to Wallington Reserve this Sunday for a baseball come and try day.<\/p>\n
The all-abilities baseball clinic will be the first of its kind to take place in the Greater Geelong region and aims to pique player’s interest in potentially starting a program or a competition.<\/p>\n
Bellarine Bears vice president Matt Connell said it made him proud the club was aiming to increase their reach within the community.<\/p>\n
“We’ve been continuously expanding our club culture and inclusivity, and this is another great step in doing so,” he said.<\/p>\n
“There is a real appetite for all abilities sport within our region.<\/p>\n
“We are really proud to be making inroads in trying to see if we can get this up and going regularly.<\/p>\n
“If we get ten people, it might be just a local program at the Bears and if we get more, then we may look at getting a team up and going.<\/p>\n
“We hope this initiative will help to kickstart things within the region for all-abilities baseball.”<\/p>\n
Mr Connell said if local all-abilities athletes share an interest in wanting to form a team and play a ten week season, the goal is to run it line with Term 3 on each Sunday between July 17 and September 17.<\/p>\n
The come and try day is suitable for players of all ages and all abilities.<\/p>\n
The event will begin at 11am.<\/p>\n
