{"id":71353,"date":"2023-06-22T04:00:52","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T18:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/ocean-mind-thank-volunteers-and-supporters\/"},"modified":"2023-06-22T04:00:52","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T18:00:52","slug":"ocean-mind-thank-volunteers-and-supporters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/ocean-mind-thank-volunteers-and-supporters\/","title":{"rendered":"Ocean Mind thank volunteers and supporters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SURF therapy not-for-profit Ocean Mind said a huge thank-you to their volunteers and program mentors at their first formal End of Season Volunteers Celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Held at the Anglesea Bowls Club on Saturday evening, the event was attended by more than 50 passionate locals who have assisted with the rollout of Ocean Mind&#8217;s programs over the last calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>The night of events included the presentation of five community awards as well as live music from Surf Coast band Jarosite.<\/p>\n<p>The awards recipients were Sergio Conti (Stoke), David Geary (Sustainability), Matthew Benson (Connection), Kate de Beer (Empowerment) and Breanna Redden (Dedication).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_106766\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-106766\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-106766 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/Awards2_71904-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1687315756\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-106766\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matthew Benson receiving his award for connection.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Mind founder Rachael Parker said the event will become an annual occurrence based on the success of the evening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was absolutely fantastic and so good to see all our mentors and program funders all in the once place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The night was really about bringing everyone together to thank them for their huge body of work throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All the volunteers went above and beyond, so it was great to celebrate that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bowls club were amazing hosts; we will definitely be back there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_106770\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-106770\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-106770 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/Awards3_71954-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1687315756\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-106770\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kate De Beer recieving her Empowerment Award from Ocean Mind founder Rachael Parker.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Parker said that another theme of the evening was impact sharing and showcasing some of the stories of the clients who are positively impacting from the programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did a bit of impact sharing on the night to just let those volunteers truly know about the positivity they are beaming on the participants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know a lot of the funders and mentors can see it on the beach but might not have seen the research and findings behind it all.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To show them the figures and the facts, really spelt out it to the volunteers and mentors to hone in on the real impacts they are having on a day to day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The impact goes beyond the smiles they see on the beach, it filters into the young people&#8217;s lives at home too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_106768\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-106768\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-106768 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/Awards4_71983-600x380.jpg?_t=1687315756\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-106768\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Breeanna Redden (middle) accepting her Dedication Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Mind will resume their programs in the September school holidays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SURF therapy not-for-profit Ocean Mind said a huge thank-you to their volunteers and program mentors at their first formal End of Season Volunteers Celebration.
