VICTORIAN police and community members will ride through the Surf Coast and Bellarine next week during a 1,000-kilometre fundraiser that will support people living with cystic fibrosis (CF).<\/p>\n
The 20 cyclists will leave from Adelaide this Saturday and ride to Melbourne during Cycle 4 CF, an event that helps create awareness about cystic fibrosis and raises much-needed funds for Cystic Fibrosis Community Care.<\/p>\n
Cystic Fibrosis Community Care Victoria supports about 700 Victorians, including Ocean Grove youngster Brody MacPherson, who is the face of the fundraising event.<\/p>\n
Mum Kate said she couldn\u2019t wait to take Brody to Torquay to meet all the cyclists and cheer them on.<\/p>\n
During the last stages of Cycle 4 CF, riders will travel from Marengo to Torquay on March 8 and Torquay to Queenscliff on March 9, and then catch a ferry to Sorrento before their final leg to Melbourne.<\/p>\n
This is the second year the event has been running and according to Acting Sergeant Greg Green, a serving member of the Victorian Police, \u201cwe did this event in 2016, and raised over $40,000 and are hoping to beat that amount this time\u201d.<\/p>\n
This event holds special significance for Acting Sgt Green as he is also a father to a beautiful young daughter, aged seven, who suffers with cystic fibrosis.<\/p>\n
Cystic fibrosis is the most commonly inherited life-shortening chronic illness affecting young Australians today and there is currently no cure.<\/p>\n
The event will start on Saturday March 3 in South Australia and finish on Friday March 9 in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
Brody\u2019s mum Kate wanted to thank the Ocean Grove Hotel, which was donating tips for the month of March to the ride and shouting the riders some meals too.<\/p>\n
Cycle 4 CF is a not-for-profit group of casual bike riders who will cover an average of 150 kilometres per day and each rider is committed to fundraising a minimum of $1,000.<\/p>\n
