A GENEROUS donation from a local sports club will benefit residents at risk of food insecurity.<\/p>\n
Feed Me Bellarine has received a $3,500 cash boost from the Portarlington Demons Football & Netball Club following a successful Ladies Day.<\/p>\n
Demons social committee member, A Grade netballer, and event organiser Morgan van Leerdam said the club\u2019s annual Ladies Day, held on June 17, was a resounding success.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a really fun day,\u201d Ms van Leerdam said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was really exciting when we found out how much was raised on the day, given what is a small-scale event is having such a big effect on so many people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Approximately 80 people attended Portarlington FNC\u2019s Ladies Day.<\/p>\n
A total of 45 raffle and auction prizes went up for sale, with money raised from each ticket purchase.<\/p>\n
The largest prize was the Bellarine Winery Tour for 10 people and a driver valued at over $500.<\/p>\n
Feed Me Bellarine manager Samantha Harrison said the organisation is grateful to receive donation.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur food relief delivery service has increased this year, as has our market, most mornings at 10am we have a line that extends out the door,\u201d Ms Harrison said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe funds will go straight into our operational costs, getting the food out to residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have smaller fundraisers happening every week, but we never expected this kind of result coming out of the Ladies Day event.\u201d<\/p>\n
