{"id":74276,"date":"2023-08-12T04:00:18","date_gmt":"2023-08-11T18:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=74276"},"modified":"2023-08-10T15:20:30","modified_gmt":"2023-08-10T05:20:30","slug":"two-sides-remain-in-bfl-finals-hunt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/two-sides-remain-in-bfl-finals-hunt\/","title":{"rendered":"Two sides remain in BFL finals hunt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bellarine Football League (BFL) season comes to an end this weekend with the first week of finals just around the corner for the senior competition&#8217;s top five sides.<\/p>\n<p>The BFL&#8217;s top three is already locked in with last year&#8217;s runners-up Torquay (64 points, 219.63 per cent) claiming the minor premiership before its shock loss to Drysdale (54 points, 140.20 per cent) last weekend and will earn a week off.<\/p>\n<p>The Hawks, led by coach Ben Carmichael and playing coach Tom Ruggles, shocked the Tigers at Spring Creek Reserve with a one-point win on the final siren, 75-76. That win, coupled with Barwon Heads&#8217; (48 points, 177.30) shock loss at home to Queenscliff, solidified the Hawks in second spot on the ladder with one round to go.<\/p>\n<p>Barwon Heads&#8217; loss to the Coutas locked in the third spot for the Seagulls and sets up a qualifying final clash with the Hawks on August 19.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_112544\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-112544\" style=\"width: 626px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-112544 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/061A5809-scaled.jpg?_t=1691644374\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-112544\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Modewarre captain Jeremy Ollis will aim to guide his side back to the BFL Finals.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea (42 points, 121.41 per cent) will make its return to the BFL finals next weekend and will face either Modewarre or Geelong Amateur in the elimination final.<\/p>\n<p>The Roos defeated Ocean Grove 88-59 last weekend on the back of Daniel Midolo&#8217;s three majors, securing one of the two remaining finals spots.<\/p>\n<p>Ammos (36 points, 99.03 per cent) are one win behind Modewarre (40 points, 93.48 per cent) and will need to defeat Drysdale away at Mortimer Oval later today.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of an Ammos win, Modewarre will need to defeat Anglesea to remain inside the top five, given its lower percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Queenscliff, Ocean Grove, Newcomb and Portarlington are all outside the finals picture.<\/p>\n<p>All four will play in dead rubber contests in round 18, with Newcomb to head to Barwon Heads, Queenscliff to square off with Ocean Grove and Portarlington to host Torquay on Ron Evans Oval.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks 1 and 2 of the BFL finals will be held at Portarlington Recreation Reserve on August 19 &amp; 20 and August 26 &amp; 27.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bellarine Football League (BFL) season comes to an end this weekend with the first week of finals just around the corner for the senior competition&#8217;s top five sides.
