THE federal government will put in at least $10 million towards major job-creating capital infrastructure works through its Regional Growth Fund, applications for which are now open.<\/p>\n
Announced in the 2017 federal budget, the $272 million fund is intended to support projects that support long-term economic growth and create jobs in regions undergoing structural adjustment.<\/p>\n
Projects must be worth at least $20 million (there is no upper limit specified), and applicants must contribute at least 50 per cent of the costs themselves.<\/p>\n
Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson said she was looking for big ideas from the community that could help shape the future of the Geelong region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an exciting program that is set to deliver major projects over $20 million that take advantage of the region\u2019s natural economic strengths.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Regional Growth Fund will support additional investment for sustainable economic growth, including from the private sector, other levels of government, and not-for-profit organisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cInitial applications close on April 27 and I encourage everyone eligible in our community to look at the program guidelines and get started on an application.\u201d<\/p>\n
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh launched the guidelines at the weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Regional Growth Fund will be a game-changer across Australia by unlocking government funding for projects that have the capacity to transform regional areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuccessful projects will provide greater support for existing industries such as agriculture, tourism and manufacturing, allowing them to innovate and flourish.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Regional Growth Fund is an open invitation to everyone eligible who believes in regional and remote Australia to partner with the Coalition Government to support positive change for the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cI look forward to working together with local organisations to deliver more jobs and more opportunities across regional Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n
