{"id":75031,"date":"2023-08-26T18:38:12","date_gmt":"2023-08-26T08:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/tigers-secure-grand-final-berth-in-barwon-heads-barrage\/"},"modified":"2023-08-26T18:51:51","modified_gmt":"2023-08-26T08:51:51","slug":"tigers-secure-grand-final-berth-in-barwon-heads-barrage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/tigers-secure-grand-final-berth-in-barwon-heads-barrage\/","title":{"rendered":"Tigers secure Grand Final berth in Barwon Heads barrage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TORQUAY Football Club is heading back to the Bellarine Football League Grand Final with a dominant 15.9.99 to 5.12.42 win over coastal rivals Barwon Heads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The minor premier Tigers are back in the big dance after goal-kicking sharpshooter Lucas Anderson led the way up front, slotting six goals over the Seagulls defence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was an evenly balanced start to the contest with the Torquay kicking three goals to Barwon Heads\u2019 two and boasting a 21-14 lead quarter time, but the Tigers began its surge in the following term.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Torquay\u2019s four second-quarter goals put some distance between themselves and the two-time reigning premiers, limiting the Seagulls to a lone goal in the same stretch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114313\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114313\" style=\"width: 795px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114313 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/0G2A2918-scaled.jpg?_t=1693038662\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"531\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114313\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Torquay&#8217;s Jacob Ireland (41) and Barwon Heads&#8217; Ned Aulsebrook (34) fight for the loose ball.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The momentum stayed with the Tigers again in the third, amassing a 37-point lead by the final break 72-35, before finishing the job in the fourth to claim the match by 57 points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today\u2019s result was eerily similar to last year\u2019s Second Qualifying Final in which the Tigers defeated Barwon Heads by 75 points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Barwon Heads will still get the chance to play in this year\u2019s Grand Final, if the Seagulls can win in next week\u2019s Preliminary Final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Torquay had seven players hit the goal-scoring list, headlined by Lucas Anderson\u2019s six majors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tom Diamond (two goals), Nathan Mifsud (two goals), Will Tamassy (two goals), Jesse Dawson, Charlie Ham, and Chase Loftus all added to the scoreboard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_114314\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114314\" style=\"width: 677px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-114314 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/0G2A2838-scaled.jpg?_t=1693038720\" alt=\"\" width=\"677\" height=\"451\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-114314\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Torquay&#8217;s Oscar Lewis (left) and Barwon Heads&#8217; Cooper Ward (right) battle for the contested possession.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weylin Doyle, Ben McNamara, Baxter Mensch, Chase Loftus, Nathan Mifsud, and Lucas Anderson were named the Tigers\u2019 best.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finn Cornell, Charlie Walter, Lachlan Wilson, Ryley Stuhldreier, and Sammy Baker were named the Seagulls\u2019 best.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seagulls forward Brock Close managed a pair of goals, but was Barwon Heads\u2019 only multiple goal-getter.
