{"id":76152,"date":"2023-09-14T10:05:33","date_gmt":"2023-09-14T00:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=76152"},"modified":"2023-09-14T10:06:21","modified_gmt":"2023-09-14T00:06:21","slug":"grubbers-family-sticks-together-to-create-new-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/sport\/grubbers-family-sticks-together-to-create-new-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Grubbers &#8216;family&#8217; sticks together to create new history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT HAS been a long time between drinks for Ocean Grove&#8217;s A Grade netball side, but the 19-year wait to be premiers is over following last weekend\u2019s win over Geelong Amateur.<\/p>\n<p>Grubbers co-coach Candice Parker was part of the club\u2019s last premiership as a player in 2004, and said coaching a side in a decider instead of playing in one was slightly more nerve-wracking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key was just to keep calm,\u201d Parker said after the Grubbers\u2019 45-53 win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake sure we just continued to settle, play fun, and we just needed to keep going.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur game plan was sort of just to stick together and come out firing, and just stay with Ammos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe looked like we wanted it, we fought for the ball, we got up for rebounds, we scrapped for everything, and we got the win in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 455px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/2H3A5082_04297.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"304\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Captain Emily Moroney and co-coach Candice Parker with the premiership cup.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Grove played the second half without star defender Kelsey Ollis, who suffered a knee injury in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The Grubbers stuck to their guns and won the fourth quarter 13-9, building out to an eight-goal lead and the Grand Final win.<\/p>\n<p>Ocean Grove captain Emily Moroney said it was a testament to the group, adjusting to Ollis\u2019 injury and coming out with the win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty heartbreaking to see Kelsey go down, but that\u2019s where we showed our strength and our determination,\u201d Moroney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce she went down, we stuck together as a team and did it for the \u2018family\u2019, we pulled together and kept playing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have this saying of \u2018family\u2019, we are a family and we\u2019re all so close.
