THE City of Greater Geelong has authorised its intention to declare a Special Charge Scheme to partially fund a missing link in a key pedestrian area of Waurn Ponds.<\/p>\n
A section of kerb and channel and footpath on the east side of Ghazeepore Road has not yet been completed as the area has been developing since 2002.<\/p>\n
The proposed new footpath, kerb and channel and road widening will improve access, amenity and safety of this road.<\/p>\n
While investigating this project, a decision was made to include an indented bus bay to the south of the road.<\/p>\n
The width of the road does not allow for proper two way traffic, so an indented bus bay will improve safety for motorists passing buses.<\/p>\n
One property next to the proposed works will receive special benefit through improved access and amenity.<\/p>\n
According to the report presented to councillors at the Community Focus Committee meeting, the affected property owner will have to pay a levy of more than $20,000 but the property owner \u201cis aware of and is in favour of the impending charge\u201d.<\/p>\n
The total project will cost $154,752, and the next steps will be to advertise the scheme and receive submissions from property owners.<\/p>\n
