{"id":79619,"date":"2023-12-25T04:02:18","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T17:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/?p=79619"},"modified":"2023-12-21T09:05:03","modified_gmt":"2023-12-20T22:05:03","slug":"no-fireworks-for-barwon-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bellarinetimes\/news\/no-fireworks-for-barwon-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"No fireworks for Barwon Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Barwon Coast Committee of Management has opted to continue its policy of not hosting fireworks on the coastal reserve this New Year&#8217;s Eve.<\/p>\n<p>The committee&#8217;s decision is backed by research indicating that fireworks can disrupt the migratory and reproductive behaviours of wildlife and contribute to chemical pollution in soil, water, and air.<\/p>\n<p>Barwon Coast acknowledged in a statement that some people may be disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognise this may be disappointing for some of our community, however the safety of our community and staff is paramount, along with protecting the coast for generations to come,&#8221; Barwon Coast stated.<\/p>\n<p>Acting chief executive ffocier Paul Gangell said each year thousands of visitors joined the local community in enjoying the beautiful coastal reserve.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The festive season is a magical time on our coast; from welcoming visitors from all over Australia and the world to enjoy our stunning beaches, to locals continuing to enjoy the coastal reserves as they do all year round, as well as campers getting a taste of beach and riverside life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Safety is paramount at Barwon Coast and we want to encourage everyone \u2013 campers, visitors, staff and our local communities \u2013 to look after each other and stay safe on our beaches this summer. We also want to remind everyone to help us care for the coast \u2013 don&#8217;t litter, stay out of the fragile dunes, and stay away from any wildlife you might see.
